Jack Antonoff may not be a household name, but he’s been making waves in the music industry for over a decade. Antonoff has produced Taylor Swift‘s last three studio albums, won four grammys as well as being the lead singer of his own band, Bleachers.
In June of this year Antonoff unveiled his latest musical outing: Red Hearse. Alongside Sounwave (a producer for Kendrick Lamar) and Sam Dew (a relatively unknown singer-songwriter).
The group released a two track self-titled EP of the songs ‘Red Hearse’ and ‘Honey’. ‘Red Hearse’ is a bubbly pop song over a strong bass-enthused beat, with sweet harmonies and a catchy chorus. The second track, ‘Honey’, is a slightly slower R&B track which really highlights the incredible falsetto of singer Sam Dew, which is rarely heard in modern chart music.
Earlier this week the band made their TV debut, performing new track ‘Half Love’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The trio performed sat around a dimly lit table, with each member for some reason wearing a blue boiler suit, whilst still looking more fashionable than I could ever be.
I’m not sure if the voice of Sam Dew holds up quite as well in the live performance as he does in the studio recording (which you should check out), but if anything the slight roughness helps to add emotion to the heartfelt song .
The chorus of ‘Half Love’ hasn’t quite stopped replaying in my head, but you should definitely keep an eye on whatever comes next from this uniquely talented trio.
