Rap boyband BROCKHAMPTON are back with their long awaited new single ‘I Been Born Again’. The track is their first release since 2018’s chart-topping album ‘Iridescence’, which the band admitted was a bit more experimental than the previous ‘SATURATION‘ trilogy of albums.
The posse-cut features all musical members of the collective, each with a short verse over almost a grime-style beat. There isn’t actually a chorus to this track, which is an interesting choice as the refrain that finishes the track, from member Matt Champion, is catchy enough that it could have easily been the song’s chorus, (something fans have quickly edited for themselves).
Obviously, I’m sure that BROCKHAMPTON knew they could have added this refrain as the chorus, or made a different hook entirely to make this song more chart friendly. In their past projects the group have created countless iconic and catchy choruses such as on tracks ‘GOLD‘, ‘1999 WILDFIRE‘ and ‘BLEACH‘.
Instead, my guess is that ‘I Been Born Again‘ is a teaser track for their upcoming album ‘GINGER‘, to highlight each members rapping ability, and the groups impeccable production. Presuming this is the case, then they’ve done a good job at hyping fans up, but we’ll have to see if this track actually makes the cut for the album later this month.
