Pusha T – ‘Sociopath’ and ‘Coming Home’ Song Reviews

After the release of his incredible album ‘Daytona‘ last summer, Pusha T is back with two brand new singles, ‘Sociopath‘ featuring Kash Doll and ‘Coming Home‘ featuring Lauryn Hill. Unfinished versions of both these tracks had leaked earlier in the summer, so Pusha T did the world a favour and officially released finished studio versions of both tracks.

The highlight of the first track, ‘Sociopath’, is easily the production: the hard-hitting Kanye West beat would have fit perfectly on Pusha’s 2018 album ‘Daytona’, with the track only just missing out on a spot on the seven track project.

Lyrically it’s not Pusha’s best work and it’s not too catchy either. I think Pusha T also missed a trick not calling the track ‘Charcuteries’, given the comedic dialogue between Pusha and Kanye that interjects at one point during the track. Also I hadn’t heard of Kash Doll before this track, but her feature is far too short, which is kinda odd as it doesn’t really give the female MC time to make an impression, either good or bad.

The second of the two tracks to be released is definitely the stronger. ‘Coming Home’ was supposedly recorded back in 2015, but after a leak earlier this summer, it has now found its way onto streaming services.

I absolutely love the Kanye West produced beat on this track and Pusha T sounds perfect over it. It’s a slight change from the Pusha T that we often hear, especially compared with his verses in 2018, but it’s a much appreciated change, to have a light and upbeat track, as Pusha discusses the American prison system.

Also having a feature from the one and only Ms. Lauryn Hill in 2019 is a rare site, even Drake could only get a sample rather than a feature. Her chorus is catchy and her vocals work perfectly over Kanye’s production.

Pusha T has announced he’ll have another album out by the end of the year, fully produced by Kanye once again. I doubt we’ll hear either of these songs on the project, but I’m glad they’ve been officially released and am excited for whatever comes next.
