FKA twigs is getting closer to the release of her second studio album ‘MAGDALENE‘, 5 years after her previous release ‘LP1‘. The new album’s lead single, ‘Cellophane‘ was released back in April of this year, but this week fans were treated to another new track, ‘holy terrain‘ featuring rapper Future. The trap-style beat of the track is different to previous material from FKA twigs, but her voice works surprisingly well over it, although I thought that Future’s feature wasn’t anything too special.
‘holy terrain‘ is a different track from FKA twigs, with the British singer using a trap-electronic-rap style beat, rather than the minimalist ballad style of the first single, ‘Cellophane‘. This new track is more reminiscent of twigs’ 2018 feature on A$AP Rocky‘s single ‘fukk sleep‘, with the experimental style and blending of genres, but it works really well.
Future provides adlibs throughout the song, before closing with his own verse. It’s not the worst feature I’ve heard him rap, but I think I would have preferred a deeper more lyrical rapper to feature on the track, such as Kendrick Lamar. That said, Future is supposedly the only feature on the upcoming album, so given the drastic stylistic differences from the two songs we’ve heard so far, who knows which direction the album will go in when released at the end of October.
