DJ and Producer Chris Lorenzo has unveiled a brand new track featuring vocals from Mike Skinner of The Streets, entitled ‘Take Me as I Am‘. The song features Skinner’s iconic style of singing/rapping, over a beat which takes influence from elements of house, garage and drum and bass.
Skinner raps about meeting a girl on a night out and it’s interesting to hear him say “Just ask a pretty girl to show you her DMs,” given DMs definitely didn’t exist when The Streets first came on the scene in 2001. That said, Skinner’s vocals work really well with the drum and bass track, with Chris Lorenzo’s bassline chorus being a particular highlight.
The Streets haven’t released a studio album since 2011, and ‘Take Me as I Am‘ is their first release this year, following a series of singles released in 2018. It’s unknown if Chris Lorenzo will be collaborating with the alternative hip-hop group again in the future, but if this single is anything to go by, the UK needs more music from Mike Skinner.
