Artist Spotlight: Arlo Parks

London based artist Arlo Parks is only 19 years old, and hasn’t yet releases a studio album but the release of her ‘Super Sad Generation‘ EP back in April 2019 has shown her incredible talent for heartfelt bedroom-pop tunes of teenage angst.

Cola‘ was the first official single released by Arlo Parks back in 2018. The track is from the perspective of someone who has found out their partner is being unfaithful. The light vocals over the low-fi instrumental place all the focus on Arlo Park’s amazing voice, which really highlights the emotion behind the lyrics.

Most recently, the track ‘Second Guessing‘ was released at the end of September. The track is another emotive tune, as Arlo Parks sings on the personal tune about the struggles of trying to sort out her life and relationships. This genre of bedroom-pop is all the range at the moment, with the likes of Clairo finding great success in the genre. For Arlo Parks, her incredible voice makes her stand out and I could easily imagine her moving on from this bedroom style to perhaps R&B project, or even towards hip-hop, with the single ‘Super Sad Generation‘ showing off her ability at a pop-rap flow.

There’s still no word on a feature length album, but her next EP, entitled ‘Sophie‘ is due for release at the end of November. For now, Arlo Parks is supporting singer Jordan Rakei on his European tour, but she’s definitely one to watch, so count yourself lucky if you’re able to catch her before she blows up.
